II.- Additionnal files
First of all , it is important to note, there is no compatibility for additionnal files, except contrary advice, between Fly! 1/2K and Fly! II.
The "lisez-moi" are generally written by PC conceptors, but don't worry in reading you must place such file in C:/My documents/my games/my folders/(and so on.)
In fact, there are two sorts of files :
• those usable as it is, you will have to place in the wanted folder (for example the maps in "Maps", the aircraft in "Aircraft"... follow always carefully for that the "lisez-moi" explanations because we often find stranges choices at certain creators)
• the dex files to import with ImportDB, which installs the data in the good place
Let's see that more in detail !
A.- aircraft
All the free planes can be used on Mac : place the files in the "aircraft" folder in following the "lisez-moi" instructions. Don't hesitate to install them !
An exception (in my knowledge) : the DR400 special breakdown "in the green" of Laurent Claudet uses some dll which are not present on Mac, so you won't have the pleasure to break down when you don't respect the engine parameters !
You will get over with his DR400-180 IFR which is compatible Mac.
Let's go, I give my preferences very subjective :
- for the improved origin aircraft : you must use imperative the version v88, which fly much better. In particular :
-
the Malibu 88, single engine aircraft with high performance very manageable, very superior in comparison with the "default" model;
- the Kingair 88, a turbo-propeller twin engine aircraft, a wonder, rather complex to pilot well (the panel is filled of dials), and very performing.
Don't miss the René's lesson on Simvol to learn to start it (unfortunaly, on Mac we can't manage separately the two engine controls !), add the Leon's sounds "Pancreas" Melado for twin turbo-propeller, and read well the good manual (in English) which accompagny the v88. - the Hawker 88, business jet.
I forget intentionally the Cessna, blocked by the PA28 and the other twin engine aircraft, the Navajo, blocked by the KingAir, but they exist all in v88.
- for free planes :
- the PA28 of ROTW, a very successful aircraft in all points of view, from the flight model to the interior and exterior appearance. Ideal for the learning like the travel in VFR. Its flight manual in French or in English allows to fly like in the reality, I strongly recommend it, it is the success of the year !
- the Citabria (Mac patch necessary), a magnificent aircraft of aerobatics very manegeable, even if your Mac is not very fast, also ideal for the ballad because it is very glass.
-
the Cessna 140, "dad" machine (pratically with avionics) very pleasant to pilot, and also convertible in hydroplane, if you want to land on the Seine in Paris or on a pond in the Landes. Unfortunaly, rather heavy to download (2 x 40 Mb).
- Concerning the "commercial" planes (those we buy, for example at PMDG), it exists every time distincts Windows and Mac versions.

Where find all these wonders ?
•on Simvol, the PA28 is in "Archives/Fly! 1/2K files/aircraft" (it exists also for Fly! II besides, read well the download indications), and don't forget especially the manual !
•on Avsim, TRI Fly! category.. Fly! Aircraft the files named :
-
"R400_4.zip" for the DR400,
-
"malibuv88.zip" for the improved Malibu,
-
"kingairv88gps.zip" for the Kingair, and "lm_TurboPropSnds.zip" for sounds
- "hawkerv88.zip" for the Hawker
- "citabria.zip" thus as well as the "cit_mac_patch.zip" Mac patch, plus the "lm_citabriasndpck_op.zip" sounds for the Citabria
•The hydraplane Cessna finds here : http://www.geocities.com/flyontario/download.htm, you will find also the link for the base version of this aircraft of Paul "Bart" Simpson.
Well, and you can explore Simvol and Avsim for others discoveries : the amazing Staggerwing of Jean Sabatier, jets (DC9, MD80, 747), and numerous single engine aircraft, the choice is very important.

B.- Sceneries
Well study the "lisez-moi" for every folder, certain sceneries must be placed in the "scenery" folder, but sometimes it is "taxiways"... All compatible Mac, except an exception (known), a scenery on the Rainer Mount (NW of the USA) where a distinct version exists for Mac.
To know what exists, begin by Simvol, you will have a panorama of all the French sceneries, and also sceneries of other sceneries.
And then Avsim, although its tidying up is rather opaque, offers an immense choice.
Prefer the Terrascene 2 sceneries, more detailled, but be careful to the weight, a base "tile" represents about 70 Mb zipped.
Be careful also to the double files, certain locations like Arizona have been realized by different authors (the complete version of Jean Sabatier is amazing, see the details on Simvol).
Among my favourite scenery, I recommend you Hawaii, about 250 Mb in total, it is ab-so-lu-te-ly splendid.
Finally a curiosity which is not on Avsim : all the Japan covered of specific sceneries, link below. Well, there areEnfin une curiosité qui n'est pas sur Avsim : tout le Japon
couvert de scènes spécifiques, lien ci-après. Bon,
there is all the same for more than 6 Gb in total, but you can test several "tiles"to start !

C.- Other additionnal files
Taxiways
No Mac problem in my knowledge. The most complete are evidently those covering France, thank you ROTW : the Frédéric-Laurent pair made us an extraordinary work with runways, frequencies and taxiways of a considerable number of airfields.
Maps
No Mac problem in my knowledge... except Jeppesen maps for Greece, I can't make appear, so to consider as non-usable on Mac. In France, the ROTW proposes VFR, superior and inferior IFR maps, who said better ?
DEX files
No Mac problem in my knowledge, since we are ready to confront the base ImportDB for Mac (its bugs, its slowness), and to follow the regular updates of the "king" Didier (hence the utility to follow regularly the "News").
Complete packs
I think here to the France pack, no doubt the most beautiful realization of the world for Fly! at once for its quality but also for the complete elements it offers : different models of air maps, some meticulous elevations (the Alps) some DEX files tested with rigour (more than 400 airfields !), and of course magnificent sceneries and very accurate :-)
No particular difficulty, the "lisez-moi" is adapted as well Mac as windoze, to read with attention and step by step ! Thus such scenery will demand, to work, the presence of an aircraft-decoration in the "aircraft" folder.
The conceptors take trouble to do these clear "lisez-moi"... all that you have to do is to apply them.
Scripts
Warning, they are different for Mac, but their functions are very interesting : "AltitudeCallout" which announces the altitude, well useful on the jets, "pushback", "cabincalls" or again the replacing ATC, C4TO (Cleared for Take-Off). To try and adopt !
Develop for Fly!
There, it is the big desert, practically nothing exists on Mac. The amateurs will have to find a PC-Windows or install an emulator like VirtualPC of Connectix. But the emulators, you musn't wait miracle about the rapidity, it is very very slow !
The persons concerned will find advices very detailled on this topic next to our Denez friend, Mac user and unrepentant developer.

Additionnal files out of the category
Here, few things work on Mac : go from the principle nothing works for us... except contrary advice. That avoids you to download a file which, once opened, contains an ".exe" you won't be able to use.
When it is compatible Mac, it is indicated.
Example : Flytex for Mac, and besides I recommend you this program (it provides some textures for runways)
Search the files having this name on Avsim, TRI
Fly! category... Be careful, well choose the version 2 !
Among that doesn't work, the Fly! editor. Indeed, the Fly!edit is not supported on Mac, (versions 1 and 2K), we can't in particular flatten certain runways...

III. Diverse
And the joystick ?
Don't do without the pleasure to use a joystick (joystick with rudders by twisting, engine throttle, plus a dozen of programmable buttons). It exists several joystick for Mac. I use a Saitek Cyborg with an USB port, the Mac recognizes it without problem (under OS9, not under OSX). All the informations are welcome.
Remark on the downloads
The proposed files are generally some "files.zip".
If they don't unzip automatically, open Stuffit Expander (the most recent version if possible), type apple-E and choose the file to unzip...
Organize well your files, Organise bien tes fichiers, we quickly made to store Gb of data, and don't hesitate to assign them families colors to differentiate them !
