The Fly.Simvol ROTW DVD #2 par Sherlock DVD

Introduction

One of the biggest problems, we had to resolve with Fly! II, is certainly the complexity that a newbie meets when he wants to get back and install all which was realized for seven years and which is downloadable on Fly.Simvol web site.
Interventions of the bravest ones on the general forum, in spite of a rather complete FAQ, showed us the road covered by some ones, and to be covered by the others.

How many have renounced because of that ? Certainly a lot !

During the "congress" 2004 (December 2004), the whole ROTW team made the decision to facilitate the simulator upgrade by distributing a DVD (3 Go of compressed data, that would have made too many CD's). But this upgrade had to be easy ! Thus, the DVD became auto-executable (thanks to NSIS software by "Nullsoft").

In 2008, given the success of the Fly.Simvol ROTW DVD #1 and the numerous requests of the Flyers, we decided to release a second edtion which allows to update the 1st edition with the last news.

Setup

1/ Save your FLY.INI, RENDER.INI and DEFAULT.key files of the "Terminal Reality\Fly! II\System" folder then remove any previous installation (Fly! II and ROTW update #1)
2/ Install Fly! II from the original CD (American or European version)
3/ DON'T RUN FLY! II
4/ Install the ROTW DVD #1
5/ DON'T RUN FLY! II
6/ Install the ROTW DVD #2
7/ Run Fly! II (finally !)
Under Windows Vista: it is advised to run the FLY2.EXE, FLYSTART.EXE files (Fly! II root) and the ROTW's tools as administrator (Right click/Properties/Compatibility then tick "Run as administrator")
8/ If you have problems when Fly! II is loading: remove the FLY.INI and RENDER.INI files from the "Terminal Reality\Fly! II\System" folder
9/ If you have an ATI/AMD graphic card: quit Fly! II (normally the screen is blinking), edit the RENDER.INI file then change the VertexIndexFormat setting to 0
10/ Read the F.A.Q.** to optimize the FLY.INI and RENDER.INI files (at least the part 3.5)
11/ That's all Folks !

Content of the Fly.Simvol ROTW DVD #2

Approximately 3.5 Go of compressed data including practically all which is distributed on Fly.Simvol web site since the release of the DVD #1 for Fly! II.

- all ROTW planes (ATR 42-500, DC-3, TB10, ASH25, Lirpa...) and their repainted versions.
- planes of other authors (B707, DC9, Eurofighter, F16...) and their repainted versions.
- their complete flight manuals.
- all ROTW airports and airfields.
- some international creations (airports and/or sceneries) covering 19 countries :
Germany, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Spain, United States, Finland, Iraq, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Norway, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Taïwan, Turkey
- all taxiways revised and corrected by the ROTW.
- all ROTW sceneries (Alps, Cannes, Hyères, Chambéry, Jura, Marseille, Montpellier, Perpignan, Pyrénées...).
- all ROTW static objects libraries but also the most known ones.
- for France, all elevations (mesh) in 15m format and for some regions in "SRTM" format.
- the ROTW Dll's (Squawkbox, Windsocket, Moving Map, HST Remove...)
- many utilities written by ROTW and other authors (ServInfo, Zmodeler...).
- a complete update of all Fly! II databases.
- a guide for manual installation (for the brave !).
- some information files (Fly.Simvol FAQ for instance).
- some new pictures for Fly! II start and stop.
- and of course the corrections of the bugs reported in the DVD #1

       

All supplied files come either from ROTW or from independent authors who gave their explicit (e-mail) or implicit (file "readme") agreement.

Everything was reshaped (POD) in order to avoid disparate files spread in Fly! II development directories.
At the end of Fly.Simvol ROTW DVD #2 setup you will have a "clean" operational version at maximum level known to date.

Acquisition

You suspect that all this has a cost. Our deontology is that all must be free of charge, but the abnegation cannot go as far as paying DVD and mail expenses: we give our skills, our time and all this took it and will still take it a lot.

As we don't want "to sell" this DVD, we chose the solution to offer it as welcome present to all Fly!er which would become "Donor Member" (or "Benefactor") of the Fly.Simvol association (association under the status of the french law 1901 and so authorized to receive donations) by paying a contribution going from 10 to 25 Euros (see the different fares below), according to the chosen item.
Naturally it's not forbidden to give more !

Contrary to the DVD #1, we propose you two different offers :

This DVD represents a very big work and we hope that it really answers your expectation, you who have some difficulties to install Fly! II add-ons, and you who, disappointed, let your CD's sleep in a drawer.
"Fly! II by ROTW Second Edition" doesn't try to supplant other one simulator, but it claims to be able to offer a complementary simulator to those existing, the key points of Fly! II being always the same:
- Complete and totally realistic and functional dashboards.
- Flight models integrating all planes real parameters, and adjusted by the planes pilots.
- Software completely open to simple or very complex developments (ROTW developers discover new possibilities every day).
