ROTW: C47D (DC-3) French Navy version |
![]()
Here is the first repaint for the DC-3. We are lucky as Leen made this very beautiful livery, characteristic of French Army service aircraft.

This version is that of one Douglas C47D, number 76420 which, in May 1974,
belonged to the squadron 56S based in Nimes Garons. We can notice that the "
MARINE " inscription does not appear on the side of the cabin as for all
aircraft before 1977.
This aircraft was used for search and rescue, and training. The squadron insignia is visible under
the pilot window. This " naval " version is closely related to civilian versions (DC-3),
with an extra cargo door (under the lateral roundel) for bulky objects.

It only remains for us to admire the unforgettable line of this aircraft which was in service in France until 1984: what an operational longevity for a plane!

NOTE: as for the Jean Sabatier's
original version, this one works also on Mac.
WARNING 01/05/2006: the French Navy version
has created a bug in the Ansett aircraft. It's fixed in the V2 release.

DC-3: Air-France civil version (F-BBBE) |
![]()
Our painter showed it during the DC-3 release, here is the Air-France version he promised us. In fact, the F-BBBE is the former F-GDDP which was repainted in the colors of the French air company for the Air and Space Museum in the Bourget.

Here are several extra screenshots of this beautiful aircraft: the first photo was taken during the takeoff in Fly! over St-Christol, you know, the aeronautical village of the ROTW.

The second one is a superb view from the top which shows how were registered the commercial aircraft at the time where the F-BBBE "did the line".

Finally, the last photo is the one of the model which is marketed (in Socatec, non-sponsored advertisement). For those who want to have it before the eyes for a more important immersion.

DC-3: repaint kit |

Some fly!ers, wish to embark on painting to give their DC-3 the colors of their favourite airline. So Leen supplies us with a "repaint kit" specific to the DC-3. The example, above, is there to show what it looks from a "TV test card" type texture.
We look forward to seeing if it'll arouse some vocations.
