| France le Pack! 2: all the French aerial maps by Gilles Guesnel (ROTW) Fly! II > Maps |
Earlier than expected (but who doubted it when we know the obstinacy of the ROTW group and the Gilles's efficiency), here is the whole of maps covering all the France of Fly! II.
The 3 levels allocated to flights have their maps:
- VFR maps
- IFR maps inferior level
- IFR maps superior level
Maps provided by the ROTW have been realized from the following real maps:
1 - FNA map "day" n°10 1999 allowed distribution by their authors: Jean Bossy (former FNA manager and Philippe SABLAYROLLES
of Éditerra Editions)
2 - IFR inferior area Edition 4 / 2000
(the same than Fly!)
3 - IFR superior area Edition 4 / 2000 (the same than Fly!)
IFR "en route" maps are the subject of a SIA authorization (distribution service of DGAC).
The ROTW thanks the authors and the French Civil Service for their agreement of distribution
The extraordinary advantage Fly! II gives us, it is the possibility to select the map in function of its level, not in the loading like with Fly! 1/2K, but in dynamic like show it the view below.
Remark: We get the displaying of many maps of a same area in putting in System\Fly.ini the value: "allowMultipleMaps=1".
Then we push several times on the "M" key and we select the map and the zoom factor.
Other advantage of Fly! II, it is also the possibility to "zoom" maps with 4 levels of magnification.
No other simulator offers possibilities so accomplished concerning maps displaying, because you musn't forget the superb vectorial map provided of base with the simulator which is better than a "moving map" from GPS.
Example of zoom on VFR maps from Britanny:

zoom in 100% |
Covering area:
right superior angle : 48°27N / 001° 05W
left inferior angle : 46°40N
/ 004°50W
origine of the map: FNA day n°10 1999
(warning: out-of-date map unusable for real flight)

| Fly! II: new Breton map (Finistère) by Gilles Guesnel (ROTW) Fly! II > Maps |
It would seem this map has been forgotten in the Pack! distribution. Several "bretons" showed emotion (the reputation of rainy aera must discourage pilots from south who showed only fire !). As a result Gilles cut up again to avoid the changings of maps in the middle on this superb area.
So here is the map for VFR flights of the Breton west peak: appointement in the vertical of Molène, the proof in pictures !

New of 09/04/2003: Gilles having noted a display problem on a part near Rennes of his Breton maps, he hurries up to correct that.
The good version finds in the following file (follow the "alire.txt" file).

| Fly! II: corrected map for the Alps by Gilles Guesnel (ROTW) Fly! II > Maps |
New airfields implementation allowed us to detect some location abnormalities, immediately corrected by our usual cartographer.
You will thus find here the eastern Lyon map which covers the majority of the renowned ski resorts. They are also famous high altitude airports and I think that it's your sole interest !
