Marseilles area in photo-realistic textures (GT 003-162 South)

by TJ (ROTW) and Béralex (ROTW)

Of course you recognized it, just after the "Joliette", the "Old Port" which, although it doesn't have any more its famous "transporter bridge" and that it's no more crossed by the "Pitalugue", remains remarkable both by its situation in this magnificent city and by its history.

Then the famous "Corniche" with all its white sand beaches (artificial for the most part, I saw them during their construction). But it's always a mythical walk in a city the history of which dates before JC. And on the left of the "Roucas blanc", district with beautiful villas surrounded by walls, the hill where, I'm sure, one of these days, one of our builders will put the "Good Mother" of the inhabitants of Marseilles, I named the basilica "Our Lady of the Guard".

And there, the Frioul archipelago white islands, with its famous "Chateau d'If" in which you'll see, if you're a good sailor, the Dumas' heroes cells (refer to the novel "Count of Monte-Cristo" by the famous writer Alexandre Dumas, 1802-1870).

Then while going westward, and if you get the clearance from the control tower, you'll arrive at Marignane (today Marseilles Provence) completely realized in 3D by our friend Doc. It's the industrial side (city of Vitrolles) of Marseilles which is our second larger French town (no, no, no it isn't Nice!).
On the photo below, we can see the canal which disappears into the old "tunnel of Rove".

Lastly, the trip won't be complete if we don't go as far the "Etang de Berre", and even further.

Compare with the map below and recognize "Berre", "the port of la Pointe", "Saint Chamas" , "Istres"... All is there, which happiness during a visual flight!

NOTE: We shall never repeat it enough, it's necessary to read the explanatory files accompanying the sceneries because sometimes there are some modifications to be made in some Fly! II folders, in particular you must remove the rises "...\France_SE_SRTMv1\ D003162_sud.pod" from ...\scenery folder (remove also the related file .scf).

This scenery is supplied with all necessary taxiways: it is recommended to follow the evolutions of the ROTW taxiways file, regularly updated (refer to the dedicated page), because it's then necessary to remove, from the directory, the ones delivered with sceneries.

Marseilles scenery improvement: Our Lady of the Guard

 by Frédéric Mouflin (ROTW)

One of the characteristics of this magnificent city, when we're at the vertical of the Frioul archipelago, it's the superb view on this famous basilica: "Our Lady of the Guard" ("our Good Mother" as they say there).
So Frédéric rushed, as soon as TJ's scenery was released, at his mason's tools and made a faithful reproduction. And here's the result, view of the "Old Port" in broad daylight:

...and after dark, during a flight with the PA19:
